What previous experience should I have?

The workshop is aimed at complete framing beginners as well as those who may have framed a little of their work before. There is no need for any experience of using hand tools, although any experience you do have will be a bonus!

In particular, the course is aimed at people who;

✓ Have limited or no previous experience of working with hand tools.
✓ Have some experience of mounting and framing pictures, but no experience of using the specialised tools available to framers.
✓ Want to receive support in honing current skills.
✓ Want to use graphic art as part of home improvement or refurbishment.

Course FAQ

Can I bring my own picture to be framed?

Answer:

  • Yes, we encourage you to bring your own photos or pictures. Please read the “What do I need to bring?” section for details on dimensions and quantities of pictures.

Recommendations:

  • On the day you will be working with white mounts and a black frame, so bear that in mind when choosing an image to bring. A black and white photo will work really well if you are unsure.

What if I don’t have any pictures:

  • If you don’t have a picture to frame there will be pictures provided at the event or you can email us to print your pictures for you.

Bringing unsuitable pictures/Artwork:

  • If you arrive at the event with something that is NOT suitable, you won’t be able to use it. Below is a list of everything that is NOT suitable:
  • Fabrics, artwork with texture such as oils, acrylics, loose materials such as chalk, pastels, decoupage, etc. or tightly rolled prints that need flattening…
  • Once you’re through the Art & Photography Framing Weekend you’ll find we have courses especially for handling all of these types of artwork and objects!

Is there somewhere on site I can buy lunch from?

No, the venue only has basic facilities to make hot drinks, which we do provide. It’s outside of town, so we advise bringing a packed lunch or you may be rushing around in your lunch break and miss out on the great opportunity to get to know your fellow students over lunch!

Is there free parking?

Yes, there’s ample parking right outside the workshop.

How long is the course?

The course is 7 hours and runs from 10am – 5pm.

Can I use the shop?

Unfortunately the shop is closed on the weekends. However, If you purchase tools or materials in advance we can keep these aside for you to collect on the day of the course.

Can I see the manual first?

The Manual you receive from the course will be emailed to you after the course as a PDF.

Do you provide hot drinks?

Yes, we will provide hot drinks (tea, coffee).

Can I bring someone?

No, we run the courses with set number of students as this allows the tutor to give each student the attention they need while learning. Before a course starts we engage in health and safety planning and risk assessments for the number of people we expect on the day. We don’t have a waiting area, viewing gallery or reception for companions.

Can I take photos?

Yes, you are welcome to take photos of your own work. However, please ask for permission before taking photos of anything else other than your own work.
