As a beginner to framing you will learn the materials and tools to make good basic frames for your photos and other artworks.
During the day you will be taken through the complete process of designing, planning and making a frame for one of your pictures. You will amaze yourself with the professional quality and creative style you can achieve starting from scratch.
Through clear explanation, demonstration and your hands-on practice, you will learn about:
✓ Everything you need to get started making frames!
✓ Identifying the key elements of a framed picture.
✓ How to cut a mount using specialised tools, for the mounting of a picture.
✓ Basic methods for attaching a picture to the mount.
✓ Cutting picture mouldings and joining them to create a frame for the mounted picture.
✓ Cutting the glass and backboard to fit the frame.
✓ Assembling the framed picture, including sealing the picture back and adding a hanging cord.
The workshop is aimed at complete framing beginners as well as those who may have framed a little of their work before. There is no need for any experience of using hand tools, although any experience you do have will be a bonus!
In particular, the course is aimed at people who;
✓ Have limited or no previous experience of working with hand tools.
✓ Have some experience of mounting and framing pictures, but no experience of using the specialised tools available to framers.
✓ Want to receive support in honing current skills.
✓ Want to use graphic art as part of home improvement or refurbishment.
This course is hosted by The UK School of Framing alumni at venues across the UK.
Equipment for the day is provided, well maintained and shared amongst the students, you are encouraged to support and share any tips you have with each other.
Our courses are intended to be enjoyable, educational and collaborative learning experiences, there’s no stress from tests or assessments at the end of the day. We hope you leave with the satisfaction of building and learning something new.

Bringing an unsuitable print

• Once you’re through the Basics of Framing you’ll find we have courses especially for handling all of these types of artwork and objects!
