It is often said that a well thought out mount design and colour combination can turn the most simple pieces of art into the most impactful, creative pieces. Mount cutting can allow you to really experiment with different colours and techniques which can lead you to completely different outcomes depending on your choices.
When choosing mount colours you need to consider what technique you are going to use first, as it will determine what colours you can use. For instance, If you are thinking of a single mount, then normally it’s best to keep the mount colour neutral. Colours like Deep blue and rich red will be too overpowering.
With double mounts you are to choose a key colour features within your art and by displaying the top mount and a neutral colour and the bottom mount as a key feature colour like Deep blue, you can create a brilliant combination of colour at draws the viewer into the highlighted colours.
