Description
What will the course cover?
This specialist one day workshop focuses on the specific techniques used in framing sports shirts, jerseys, and memorabilia clothing. You will learn how to plan the layout, maintain the natural form of the garment, create depth behind the glass, and mount the shirt using reversible methods that avoid damage.
Through demonstrations and hands-on practice, you will learn:
- How shirts and clothing can be displayed within a frame
- How to create depth in a frame using spacers and support structures
- How to support clothing in a frame without distortion
- Methods of attaching to a backing board using reversible principles
- How to style and position the garment before measurement
- How to plan and calculate glass size and aperture size
- How to cut mitred lengths of moulding for a deep rebate frame
- How to join mouldings and construct the frame
- How to build spacer systems to create separation between glass and garment
- How to design and make a support insert to shape the shirt
- How to prepare stitching points and secure garments invisibly
- How to assemble the completed frame and add appropriate hanging fixings
These steps reflect the project process used in professional shirt framing, including planning, building, spacing, insert creation, reversible attachment, and final assembly.
What will I make on the day?
All students will mount, support, and frame a sports shirt or jersey using reversible attachment methods, create depth using a spacer system, and complete the finished piece to a ready-to-hang standard by the end of the day.
On the day of the course, to keep everything running quickly and smoothly, the materials will be pre-selected. We use black frames and white mounts for the session, which helps streamline the process and ensures the course flows without too many options to choose from.
What previous experience should I have?
No previous framing experience is required.
